Jan 25, 2020

Angelique beat Italian Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-3 on Saturday to move on to the fourth round in Melbourne for the fifth straight year.

The three-time Grand Slam titlist, who won the Australian Open crown in 2016, advanced in two hours and eight minutes.

Angie, seeded 17th, was barely troubled in the first set. However, Giorgi fought back in the second set and won the tie-break to level the contest.

The deciding third set was a close affair as the two traded breaks midway, but the German made a crucial break in the eighth game and served out the victory.

Match statistics: aces (4-6), double faults (2-11), winners (15-49), unforced errors (16-65), total points won (98-81).

For a place in the quarter-finals, Angelique will meet Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The Russian eliminated second seed Karolina Pliskova.
