Angie sees off Giorgi to reach Sydney quarters

No.2 seed and defending champion Angelique got her quest for a second Sydney International title off to the perfect start with a straight sets win over world no.27 Camila Giorgi.

Angie recorded a 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory and sixth triumph in as many meetings with the Italian.

The two had traded break once in the first set before the German clinched the tie-break.

Angelique kept the momentum going into the second set, and sealed the win in one hour and 47 minutes.

Stats: aces (0-3), double faults (4-6), total points won (77-62).

In the last eight, Angie faces either fifth seed and 2005 winner Petra Kvitova or Su-Wei Hsieh.
