No.5 seed Angelique came back from 1-5 down in the opening set to claim a straight-set victory over lucky loser Dalila Jakupovic and reach the third round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
Angelique needed to pull off a razor-thin first-set escape before she defeated Slovenian lucky loser Dalila Jakupovic, 7-6(4), 6-3, to advance to the third round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Tuesday.
World No.7 Kerber rebounded from 1-5 down and two set points in the opening frame before moving to the victory after just over an hour and a half of play, in the first meeting between the two players. This was Jakupovic’s first-ever match against a Top 10 player.
Reigning Wimbledon champion Kerber, who has reached the Dubai semifinals in the last two years, will now take on crafty Hsieh Su-wei of Chinese Taipei in the round of 16. Hsieh dispatched Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 6-1, 6-2, in the second round earlier on Tuesday.
