No.9 seed Angelique needed one hour 22 minutes to beat Wang Qiang at the Adelaide International on Monday.

The German broke five times from 13 opportunities and saved two of three break points she faced in a 6-1, 6-3 victory over the Chinese.

Angie was initially drawn to face Sloane Stephens in the opening round, but moved into Kvitova’s position, following Petra’s withdrawal.
