No.8 seed Angelique kicked-off her 2021 campaign, beating world no.59 Katerina Siniakova of Czech Republic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at Grampians Trophy in Melbourne on Wednesday.
The match lasted one hour and 58 minutes.
Angie took the first set with two breaks of serve, then Siniakova fought back to clinch the second and draw level.
The 2016 Australian Open champion had raced to a 4-0 lead in the deciding third set, before her rival put up some resistance. However, Angie went on to seal the win and advance into the second round.

For a place in the WTA 500 event quarter-finals, Angie will face Ons Jabeur of Tunisia (WTA no.30). It will be their first career encounter.
The Grampians Trophy is one of the warm-up events leading to the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.
