Angelique suffered a first round upset at the 2021 Australian Open on Monday.
The 2016 Melbourne champion lost to world no.66 Bernarda Pera in straight sets 0-6, 4-6 after 70 minutes of play.
The 23rd seed from Germany was broken five times before finally getting on the board with a service break of her own.
However, the unseeded American stormed into the second round, booking a clash against Zarina Diyas.
