Rome: Angie beaten by Gauff in Round 1
May 09, 2022

Angelique lost her first-round encounter with Coco Gauff at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. No. 15 seeded Gauff, a 2021 semifinalist at the Foro Italico, needed 70 minutes to defeat Angie, 6-1, 6-4, with little trouble after losing serve to start the match.

Gauff nearly doubled Angelique’s winner total in victory (21 to 12) and broke serve five times. Angie has now lost her last six matches and will next play the French Open which starts on the 16th of May.

Her best results in Paris came in 2012 and 2018 when she reached the quarters.
