Angie saves 2 MP; reaches 2nd round
May 23, 2022

After a 2,5-hour and 3-set thriller, Angelique made it through to the second round of the French Open. This is her first 2nd round appearance in Paris since 2018. Two days after winning her 14th WTA title in Strasbourg, the former number one in the world defeated Magdalena Frech of Poland 2: 6, 6: 3, 7: 5. Angie was made to work hard for this win; she even saved 2 match points in the third set!

The start of the match was delayed due to rain interruptions. Angie got off to a poor start and made 13 unforced errors in the first set alone. Angelique raised her level in the second set and then held her nerves in the last points of the third set.

She next plays Elsa Jacquemot of FrRance.
