Wimbledon: Angie stopped by Mertens in Round 3
Jul 01, 2022

Belgium’s Elise Mertens has beaten Angelique in straight sets on No.1 Court Friday. Angie made too many errors as she was beaten 6-4, 7-5 by Mertens, the No.24 seed.

Mertens broke to love to take the first set in 33 minutes when Angie netted a backhand.

When Angelique created three break points of her own to move ahead 4-3 in the second, it looked as if the momentum of the match might have changed. But the swirling wind seemed to disrupt Angie’s rhythm and the match ended when she netted a forehand – her 27th unforced error.
