Angie ranked 92nd in the world reached the semifinal of the 2011 US Open beating Radwanska and Pennetta en route. The feat was even more remarkable considering the fact that she had never been past the third round of a Grand Slam previously.

Angie reached the semifinal of the 2012 Wimbledon beating Clijsters and Lisicki en route, before losing to Agnieszka Radwanska.

On October 22, 2012 Angie rose from world No. 6 to No. 5 becoming the fifth German to reach the top 5 since the WTA rankings came into being in 1975. The others being Steffi Graf, Claudia Kohde-Kilsch, Anke Huber and Sylvia Hanika.
