Angelique will not play in the quarters of the WTA 1000 event in Rome. Germany’s number one lost to Jelena Ostapenko in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
One break of serve in the first set was enough for Angie to take the lead in the match. In the second set, Ostapenko turned the tables and broke midway through on her way to forcing the decider.
At the beginning of the final set, it looked like Angelique would emerge victorious thanks to her bigger experience and shorter matches in the previous rounds. Everything went well until the sixth game with Ostapenko serving at 2-3. Angie squandered six break points and from that point on her opponent never looked back, winning three out of the remaining 4 games.
