French Open: Angie falls in opener
May 30, 2021

Angelique lost today to a qualifier in the first major upset of this year’s French Open. She has been knocked out in the first round, defeated in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 by Ukrainian qualifier Anhelina Kalinina.

Angie hasn’t made it past the 4th round of a grand slam since winning Wimbledon in 2018.

The world No. 27 had a terrible day with her serve, dishing up four double faults and not a single ace. To make matters worse, she won only 41 per cent of points on her first serve and 63 per cent of points on her second serve.

Angelique will now focus on getting her game ready for the grass court season.
